🐶 Capitol Hill Has Gone to the Dogs

…and one 🐕‍🦺 Doberman just promised to fix Big Tech

I went to Washington expecting to fight algorithms 🤖.

I didn’t expect to be out-numbered by border collies 🐕‍🦺, terriers 🐾, doodles 🐩, and at least one Doberman 🐕. Looks like everyone has taken to heart that old saying, “If you want a true friend in Washington DC, get a dog.

Walking the marble corridors of the Russell and Hart buildings 🏛️, I noticed nearly every office had a water bowl 🥣 by the door and a squeaky toy 🦴 in the corner.

Staffers strode past with leashes in one hand 🦮 and briefing folders 📑 in the other.

The Capitol, I realized, had literally gone to the dogs 🐾.

🏛️ The Old K-Street Vibe Is Gone

Once upon a time the cloakrooms off the House and Senate floors were where the real deals were cut 🤫🤝 — the horse-trading 🐎, the arm-twisting 💪, the whispered compromises.

Now?

Those same cloakrooms have been retrofitted as pet-relief zones 🐕🚻, complete with fake turf 🌱, poop-bag dispensers 💩, and little paw-print signs 🐾 like you see at airports.

These days the real deal-making often happens outside 🌳.

You’ll see a pair of senators or a bipartisan trio of representatives strolling the Capitol green 🟩 with their dogs 🦮.

If the leashes get tangled 🪢, you know you’re watching a genuine negotiation.

🔵 The Democrats’ Dogs

Most of the blue-team pups were built for comfort 🛋️.

Think spaniels 🐶 with soulful eyes 🥺, overweight golden mixes 🐕, therapy doodles 🐩 sporting matching bandanas 🧣.

They lounged under desks 🪑, doling out emotional support 🫂.

The vibe was:

“If we can just make everybody feel good 😊, maybe the deficit will take care of itself 💸.”

🔴 The Republicans’ Dogs

Across the aisle, the energy changed ⚡.

You saw border collies 🐕‍🦺 trotting purposefully 🚶‍♂️ from one end of the hallway to the other as if herding lobbyists into line 👥,

and wiry little terriers 🐕 who looked ready to dig into a budget line-item 📝 just for the sport of it.

They weren’t there for treats 🍪.

They wanted a job 💼 — to fetch, to guard 🛡️, to chase down runaway appropriations 🏃‍♂️💰.

🪑 The Doberman in the Congressman’s Chair

I finally reached the office of a congressman I’d hoped to brief on Operation Algorithm Assassin ⚔️ — my effort to force Big Tech 💻 to stop throttling independent voices.

I was prepared for the usual ritual: handshake 🤝, staffer hovering 👔, polite ten-minute slot ⏳ on the calendar 📅.

Instead, behind the big desk sat a full-grown Doberman pinscher 🐕‍🦺, upright in the congressman’s chair 🪑, gnawing a marrow bone 🦴 and sipping water 💧 from the official mug ☕.

I cleared my throat.

“Congressman…?”

The Doberman looked up with the kind of serious, unsmiling stare 👁️ you usually see in committee chairs 📜.

So I figured, why not.

I launched into my whole case — the analytics 📊, the shadow-ban data 📉, the five different AIs 🤖🤖🤖🤖🤖 that all came to the same conclusion.

The Doberman set down his bone 🦴, listened with that patient predator’s focus 🐺, then gave one sharp bark — like a gavel strike 🔨.

In my mind, it translated as:

“Understood. I’ll do my best to round up the rest of the canines on Capitol Hill 🐾 and get them to take a stand against algorithmic censorship 🚫🤖.”

I left the office thinking: I’ve been lobbying on and off for decades 📜.

This was the first time I’d felt truly heard 👂.

At least the Doberman didn’t filibuster ⏱️.

🐾 If Democracy Has Gone to the Dogs…

…we could do worse 👍.

At least the border collies 🐕‍🦺 are still trying to keep the herd together 🤝,

the terriers 🐕 are digging up waste in the budget 💰,

the therapy doodles 🐩 are handing out morale boosts 💞,

and even the Dobermans 🐕‍🦺 are willing to take a bite out of Big Tech 💻.

In an age when algorithms decide what we see and what we don’t 👁️🤖,

perhaps the most reliable allies left in Washington walk on four paws 🐾, not two feet 👣.
